Common Name(s): Franck’s Sphinx
Ecology: Adult description: This is a very large (42-64mm forewings) moth that is quite unique in its genus (1). The combination of large size, gray costal area, and then the yellow-brown color on the remainder of the wings instantly separates it from other species in the genus (1). The closest species to this in terms of appearance is Sphinx kalmiae, but that species is much smaller and not as distinctly yellow-brown. Larval description: L5: This is a fairly nondescript larva. It is overall blue-green in appearance with orange spiracles. It has a straight bluish horn. There are 7 white streaks on the abdominal segments that are bordered in blue. The dorsal surface is covered in granules that may be yellow with two black horizontal lines that run the length of the larva. Host plants: Click here to load this Caspio Cloud Database
