Common Name(s): Yellow-Banded Day Sphinx
Ecology: Adult description: This is a very small day flying bumblebee mimic with a forewing length of 16-19mm (1). The forewings are black with a white band. The hindwings are bright yellow with a black border at the base. The thorax is yellow, and the abdomen is black with some small yellow scale patches on the last segment. The resemblance while flying to a bumblebee is uncanny. This moth cannot be confused with anything else. Larval description: L5: This larva is jet black or very dark green-brown. The horn is totally absent and replaced with a dark eyespot. This species has two black horizontal lines running the length of the larva above the yellow spiracles.
