Trumpet Vine Sphinx Ecology: Adult description: This is a medium sized moth with forewings 31-35mm in length (1). The overall appearance is gray with several noticeable black streaks across the forewings. The fringe is checkered black and white on the forewings. There is a small circular discal spot. The thorax is gray with a black U shaped mark. The abdomen is gray with a black dorsal line. The sides of the abdomen have white squares separated by black lines. The hindwings are black with no striping of any sort. Larval description: L5: The larva is fairly nondescript. Coming in a green or brown/lilac form. There are 7 abdominal streaks above orange spiracles. The streaks are usually yellow and blue and the last ends at the large blue horn. The area above the streaks is bright green and the area below is usually more green-blue in the green form. In the brown form, the color above the lines is generally darker than the part below.
