Common names: Satellite Sphinx Moth
Ecology: Adult Description: This is a large (44-54mm FW length) green-gray moth with a large dark patch in the basal area of the wing (1). There are two similar species, Eumorpha intermedia and Eumorpha pandorus. To distinguish Eumorpha sateillitia from these species, look at the dark basal area. In this moth, the dark patch is concave on both edges and well defined (1). The rest of the wing margin leading to the edge of the wing is much lighter than the rectangular patch. Larval Description: L5: Larva is very smooth, generally red/green/brown in color, with a white horizontal line above the spiracles on the side running the length of the larva. There is a thick black dorsal line which helps separate this species from other Eumorpha species. Much like Eumorpha pandorus and Eumorpha achemon, this species has various white patches on the abdominal segments, usually ranging between 5-7 visible patches.
