Common Name(s): Proud Sphinx
Ecology: Adult description: This is a small day flying moth with a forewing length between 18-22mm (1). In certain regions, this moth can be confused with Proserpinus juanita. The ground color of this moth tends to be more reddish brown rather than the more greenish color of Proserpinus juanita (1). Tuttle also notes that the outer margin of the forewing is more scalloped in this species than in Proserpinus juanita and that the hindwing band in this species lacks the well defined black band that Proserpinus juanita has (1). In this species, the hindwing may have some part of a black band on the red hindwings, or it may have nothing. Larval description: L5: The larva is incredibly conspicuous. It is green in color with reddish purple half moon shapes surrounding the spiracles on each abdominal segment. Truly unmistakable. The prolegs often has the same reddish purple color on them. The reduced horn is black in color. Host plants: Click here to load this Caspio Cloud Database
